10 Ways to Express Sadness in Text-Speak
Texting has become extremely popular in the past decade and a must for some. SMS otherwise known as Short Message Speak is a way of communicating via text messages on a cell phone by condensing words to take less time to type and less space on the networks. Ever since texting was invented, people have come up with new ways to condense their words into shorter versions. Expressing emotions can be difficult when you are not communicating face to face, and can often be taken the wrong way. Listed below are ten ways to express sadness in text-speak.
- 2G2BT. Means “To Good To Be True”. While not everyone would use this as an expression of sadness, and may use it to be sarcastic, it can be used as a combination of sadness, doubt and disappointment, when something doesn’t appear to look right.
- CRBT. Means “Crying Really Big Tears”. A way to show how you are feeling about something someone said. It can be used sarcastically or to express true sadness.
- HHIS. Means “Head Hanging In Shame”. This text can be used when caught in the act, or when confessing something you feel bad about doing or saying.
- IMS. Means “I Am Sorry”. Used to express regret for what you have done or said This expression can also be used when you feel sad about a situation that someone else is in, even if you had nothing to do with it.
- VSF. Means “Very Sad Face”. Since facial expressions cannot be seen when texting this is a way to show your facial expressions via text.
- :( . Means frowning face. Used frequently in email messages as well, the frowning face shows that you feel sad about something that was said or just sadness in general.
- <3. Means “Broken Heart”. This symbol can also mean love or friendship, so you have to be careful of context in which you are using it so that you do not confuse the recipient.
- CLAB. Means “Crying Like A Baby”. Another way to express your feelings of sadness with a more dramatic flair to it.
- QQ. Means crying eyes. When putting these letters together they look like two eyes with tears running down them and can show that you are sad with just two quick types.
- SNIFF. Means crying. It can be attached to the end of a statement to show that you are sad or crying. Such as “where r u, u r l8, sniff”.
Texting may be a concept that everyone is familiar with, but not everyone does it or knows all of the terminology. Using some or all of the terms listed above can help you to express sadness in your text messages or interpret them when received.
